Whew, so let’s scratch beyond the surface to help you find that perfect Asus gaming laptop that will suit your style, price range, and performance

needs.

Why Should You Buy an Asus Laptop?

Asus is one of the best tech companies. They are known for their quality and new ideas. Here are some reasons why an Asus laptop might be the right choice for you:

Performance

Asus puts the newest hardware in its laptops. This is especially true for their lines of games. You get strong graphics cards and processors.

Innovation

They made laptops with two screens and better cooling systems. Their Nebula HDR screens are among the best you can buy.

Variety

Asus has a wide range of products that appeal to everyone. The ROG series is for serious gamers. The TUF series is for gamers who don’t want to spend a lot of money. The Zenbook series is for businesspeople who need a light, stylish computer.

How to Choose an Asus Gaming Laptop to Meet Your Needs

Before we go into our top picks, let’s start with the basics. When you know what to look for, the decision can become much easier.

Understanding the Asus Laptop Series

Two main families: Asus separates its gaming laptops into two main families: ROG (Republic of Gamers) and TUF (The Ultimate Force).

Asus ROG (Republic of Gamers): This is the high-end and ‘enthusiast series’. ROG laptops are designed with the insight and experience of ASUS gaming enthusiasts who demand the best performance and the convenience of full-size ports in a portable form factor. This family ranges from the ultra-powerful Strix and Scar for some desktop-like gaming to the slim but portable Zephyrus for gamers who are also creators or professionals. If you’re looking for nothing but high-end gaming, you want an ROG.

Asus TUF Gaming: This series emphasizes the most performance you can get for the money. TUF laptops are all about durability, tough mid- to high-end specs, and slightly cheaper price tags. They make for an ideal option for the gamer who is looking for a system with great value and performance, and can handle modern games well without costing a fortune.

Reading the Screen: OLED, Mini LED, and Refresh Rates

The screen is your eye to the game; hence, it is a very crucial component.

Refresh Rate (Hz): This is the number of times your screen changes in one second. The bigger the number, such as 144 Hz or 240 Hz, the more the action will seem like an uninterrupted stream on the monitor, which is crucial for ‘speeding games’ that need fast responses.

Resolution (QHD+, FHD): QHD+ (e.g., 2560×1600) is crisper and ‘more saturated’ than full HD (1920×1080). For big displays, I’d suggest you go for the QHD+.

Panel Type:

  • IPS: Industry standard for gaming laptops and other forms of monitors, good colors, and viewing angles.
  • OLED: Can achieve perfect black levels and a wider color range. It’s amazing as a game-driven story game and for content creation.
  • Mini LED: A premium technology that uses thousands of tiny LEDs as a backlight to get amazing contrast and brightness that can beat the best OLED.

CPU and GPU: The Engine for Powerful Performance

The gaming performance of your laptop is mostly affected by its CPU (processor) and GPU (graphics card).

  • CPU (Intel Core or AMD Ryzen): The laptop’s main unit. For 2025, look out for advanced processors like the Intel Core Ultra series or the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX series. Not to mention, these chips are both powerful for gaming and efficient for ‘everyday workloads’.
  • GPU (Nvidia GeForce RTX): The most critical supplement for gaming. The new RTX 50-Series (and the RTX 5070, 5080, and 5090 specifically) is the latest in graphics technology and the best-performing card with features like advanced DLSS for improving frame rates.

Now that you know this, let’s take a look at some of the best Asus gaming laptops that you can purchase today.

The Best Asus Gaming Laptops for 2025

I have put the newest Asus gaming laptops through a lot of hard tests. I spend at least two weeks with each laptop. This helps me see how it works in real life.

1. The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18:  The best overall Asus gaming laptop

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18  The best overall Asus gaming laptop

Specifications:

  • Price: US$4499
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 (or RTX 5080)
  • RAM: 16GB | 32GB | 64GB
  • Storage: 2TB | 4TB SSD
  • Display: 18-inch Mini LED ROG Nebula HDR, QHD+ sur 240Hz
  • Ports: 1x HDMI 2.1, 2x Thunderbolt 5 USB-C, 3x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 1x 3.5mm audio, 1x 2.5G LAN

The best Asus gaming laptop you can buy as of 2025. This brand-new computer has the newest RTX 50-Series graphics. It has done better than all of my performance tests. The design is also better than it has ever been.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 isn’t a laptop, it’s a statement. It’s made with a singular motive: to provide the greatest possible gaming experience in a portable package. If you need a desktop replacement to rival a high-end gaming rig, this is it.

Design

The moment you open the lid, you’ll see a dramatic enhancement over previous versions. It’s black beyond recognition, and the only catch is that even the old transparent plastic enclosure has now been changed to a solid one of matte black color. Such a minor change turns the whole laptop into something that feels much more luxurious and mature. The extreme gamer iconography is scaled back for a more professional finish. The RGB light strip that sits on the front now wraps around to the sides, adding to the cool “floating” effect the notebook has sitting on your desk. It remains an overweight bruiser of a machine but has a more premium look befitting its high price.

Features

The standout will be the 18-inch ROG Nebula HDR display. This Mini LED display is jaw-dropping. With 1,100 nits of brightness and four thousand dimming zones, it produces very deep blacks and bright and colorful highlights with amazing contrast. Playing games and viewing HDR videos on this screen has never been so immersive.

The port selection is state-of-the-art and very versatile, including two next-gen Thunderbolt 5 ports for super-fast data transfer and connecting multiple high-resolution monitors. The only downside is that they have all of their connectors on the side. Some people also like to keep cables like the charger and the HDMI connected to the back so they don’t clutter the desk, and that isn’t an option here. The keyboard is great—it has a good, satisfying feel to it and is also very responsive, and it still manages to keep full-sized arrow keys, which is a massive benefit to any gamer.

Performance

The 2025 Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 we tested still broke records. Manned with the best-of-the-best RTX 5090, it also outperformed last year’s top machines, like MSI’s Titan and Raider models powered by the RTX 4090. In both synthetic testing with 3DMark and real-world gaming performance, the Scar 18 came out on top with higher frame rates across the board. Not only will this laptop run demanding games, but it will also crush them at max settings.

Verdict

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 is the most powerful gaming laptop we’ve ever tested. Its mix of chart-topping performance, a gorgeous Mini LED display, and a slightly more refined design makes it the best pick for those performance enthusiasts who want no compromises. And it’s an investment, to be sure, but if you want the best of the best, this is the machine to get.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 is the one to buy if:

  • You want a desktop replacement. This is a big, powerful machine that’s probably best suited to permanently living on your desk. It delivers high-end desktop PC performance in a portable you can still pick up and carry as often as necessary.
  • You want the latest technology. With a next-gen RTX 50-Series GPU and Thunderbolt 5 ports, you are future-proofing yourself with a machine that will stand the test of time for many years to come.
  • It’s all about the immersive screen. That 18-inch Mini LED display is a work of visual art. Its immersion far surpasses what can be achieved on smaller, less sophisticated screens.

Don’t buy the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 if:

  • You need a portable laptop. This is a big, heavy laptop. If you are traveling a lot or you have to take your laptop to class or meetings, you might want to consider the Zephyrus series, which is a lot lighter.
  • You prefer clean cable management. All of the ports are on the sides, which can make your desk a mess of cables. If you prefer a clean workspace, though, it’s annoying not having any ports on the rear.

2. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14: The best Asus gaming laptop for most

2. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 The best Asus gaming laptop for most

Specifications:

  • Price: US$1359.99
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 4050 / RTX 4060 / RTX 4070
  • RAM: Up to 32GB DDR5
  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD
  • Display: 14-inch QHD+ OLED
  • Refresh rate: 120Hz
  • Ports: 1x HDMI 2.1, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 1x Type C USB 4; 1x microSD; 1x 3.5mm audio

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 has gone through some changes in 2024, and it is still a ‘fan favorite’. It is also a very good example of a portable gaming laptop that has been redefined. It departs from the typical gamer aesthetic with a sophisticated, professional design, yet manages to pack enough power to tackle modern games with ease.

The new version from 2025 makes things work much better. But it also costs more than an Asus laptop. This makes the last generation with RTX 40-series graphics a great deal. You still get great performance for games and creative work. You also save a lot of cash. This is the best choice for gamers who are also students or professionals.

Design

This year, the Zephyrus G14 has finally become a silver fox. Gone is the old dot-matrix LED lid, replaced by a single elegant diagonal “Slash Lighting” strip. What makes the laptop body so strong and chic is a single piece of CNC-milled aluminum, which is also the main reason why it is often compared to a MacBook Pro. The MateBook 13, which is only 1.5 kg in weight, is very thin and light and thus perfectly suitable for people who need to take their laptop with them all the time. Great build quality, no loosening or noise.

Features

The headline act is a 14-inch QHD+ OLED display. This display, produced jointly with Samsung, is a sight to behold. The reason is that with OLED, you receive absolute blacks, limitless contrast, and colors that are deeply and vividly amazing. Both gaming and watching movies have never been this good. The refresh rate of 120 Hz is the maximum for it, which is less than some other brands; however, the quality of the visuals is still better. The only real downside is that it doesn’t have Thunderbolt 4 because of its AMD chip, but for most people, its USB 4 Type-C port will serve the same purpose.

Performance

It’s not going to match up against those larger, 18-inch monsters, but the Zephyrus G14’s performance is shockingly good for its size. The highest spec with an RTX 4070 achieves incredible frame rates – the vast majority of the time, this will be in triple digits in most modern hit games at 1080p, and it gives a great, smooth playing experience for demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077, especially when you make use of DLSS. It’s well-balanced in terms of power and portability.

Verdict

For most of us, the Asus gaming laptop you should buy this year is the 2024 Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. It has an excellent mixture of a thin and light design, a stunning OLED display, and strong gaming performance. It’s the perfect choice for students, professionals, and people who want a powerful laptop that doesn’t look like a “gamer.”

Get the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 if and when:

  • You are always on the move. Its thin profile and lightness mean it’s extremely easy to slide into a backpack and cart around all day.
  • You want a premium display. The OLED panel is among the best you’ll encounter on any laptop. If you are a fan of great graphics for gaming, movies, or creative tasks, this is definitely the display you need.
  • You have a minimalist and neat style of beauty. Such a device more strongly resembles a high-quality ultrabook than a gaming machine; thus, it becomes suitable for professional environments or simply for gamers who ‘require a discreet design’.

It is not a good idea to get the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 if:

  • All you care about is screaming fast performance. Honestly, unless you need the absolute highest frame rates and don’t care about portability or screen technology, a larger laptop of the Strix series offers more power for about the same cost.

3. Asus TUF Gaming A15: The best budget Asus gaming laptop

3. Asus TUF Gaming A15 The best budget Asus gaming laptop

Specifications:

  • Price: $1,207.99
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS | AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 4050, RTX 4060, RTX 4070
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Storage: 512GB | 1TB
  • Screen: 15.6-inch IPS, 1920 x 1080 at 144Hz
  • Ports: 1 x HDMI 2.1, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 1 x RJ45 LAN, 1 x Type C USB 4, 1 x 3.5mm audio

Asus has established a reputation for high-end ROG laptops, but the company’s also quite good at crafting quality ‘lower-cost models’. The Asus TUF Gaming A15 is a case in point, delivering incredible gaming performance at a price that’s in reach of a lot more folks. Not everyone can buy a high-end computer. It gives you a great gaming experience without costing a lot of money. The TUF series is made to last and work well.

Design

Now with the TUF A15, Asus demonstrates that affordable laptops don’t have to look or smell like you got them from some back alley cut-rate dealer. With a metal lid and a strong chassis in cool gray, it feels more upscale than the price tag suggests. There’s a little bit of gamer-friendly logo and text, of course, though overall it’s a pretty clean and tasteful design. The construction quality is robust, as in compliant with military-standard durability, so you know it will survive everyday handling.

Features

To help cut down the price, the TUF A15 goes all in on the basics. You do get a bog-standard, yet capable, 1080p 144Hz screen, which is ideal for high frame rate gaming. The 16:9 aspect ratio and the thicker bottom bezel give it a slightly outdated vibe compared to newer 16:10 screens; however, it is still completely compatible. The full-size keyboard is great and gaming-friendly, but it is a bit soft for ‘longer typing sessions’. The trackpad is serviceable, but as with most gaming laptops in this price range, you will use a mouse for any gaming worth its salt.

Verdict

The Asus TUF A15 is hands down the best value laptop you can get at the moment. Even as it trims luxury touches like an OLED screen, it puts every dollar toward what counts most: in-game performance. If you are in the market for a performance-oriented gaming laptop without any budget constraints, the TUF A15 is easily one of the best choices available.

Buy the Asus TUF A15 if:

  • You are looking for the most speed for your buck. The A15 is all about high frame rates at 1080p. It’s a performance-first machine, and it’s an excellent value option.
  • You’re looking for a quality-feeling finish that can endure normal wear and tear. The metal lid and sturdy build mean the A15 feels more expensive than it is, and it’s reassuring that it should last a while.
  • You are already equipped with a gaming headset. The fans can be loud when the machine is working at its hardest, a not-unusual feature of powerful gaming laptops. One of the great ways to achieve this is through experience with a headset.

Don’t buy the Asus TUF A15 if:

  • You want an extremely portable device. The A15 is a typically chunky gaming laptop. It’s not an option for everyday hauler or frequent travel.
  • You are going to be gaming at ultra settings. Even though it’s a lot of power for your money, it’s a mid-range machine. To play the most demanding games at ultra settings and incorporate the ray tracing into that, you’re probably going to want one of the more expensive models.

5. Asus TUF Gaming A14: Best Value If You Need a Portable Gaming Laptop

5. Asus TUF Gaming A14 Best Value If You Need a Portable Gaming Laptop

Specifications:

  • Price: US$1,805.91
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 | AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS
  • GPU: Nvidia RTX 4060
  • RAM: 16GB LPDDR5, 32GB LPDDR5
  • Storage: 1TB SSD | 2TB SSD
  • Display: 14-inch QHD+, 165Hz
  • Ports: 2 × USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 1 × USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 1 × Type-C USB 4, 1 × HDMI 2.1, 1 × MicroSD-Card-Reader, 1 × 3,5-mm-Audio

The Asus TUF A14 is one of the most exciting laptops of the year, as it promises premium, portable gaming for a much more affordable price. It crams in a boatload of specs with a new AI-informed processor into a thin, light package and, while it’s still expensive for a gaming laptop, delivers a premium experience while costing less than the high-end Zephyrus.

Design

The TUF A14 is very much a Zephyrus G14 from a generation ago in terms of looks, and to me, that’s the highest compliment. It is slim, with a robust aluminium lid and a plastic chassis that is MIL-STD 810 rated to shrug off drops and survive extreme temperatures. It’s super portable at only 3.2 lbs (1.45kg) and 0.7 inches thick. It’s not as premium as the unibody Zephyrus, but the materials feel good and reliable for what should be an affordable laptop with a little bit of premium credit.

Features

The A14 is powered by AMD’s new Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 chip. This is an extremely fast chip capable of AAA gaming and excellent for AI-based operations and battery life when you’re working away. The QHD+ 165Hz screen is another standout, providing a sharp and slick-looking gaming experience that is few and far between at this price point. It does come with a few compromises to get to that value, however. Its keyboard backlighting is a simple single-zone white, and its screen is a bog-standard IPS panel, not the saturated OLED of the Zephyrus. But these are smart trade-offs that don’t diminish the core experience.

Performance

That’s thanks to that powerful CPU; the A14s can fight against some much bigger machines. We were surprised to find in our testing that it came impressively close to more expensive 14-inch laptops packing the higher-end RTX 4070. It can power through demanding games at both 1080p and its native 1600p resolution without a hiccup. The AI processor’s peppy is also great for battery life, and it means you get fantastic battery life for non-gaming tasks, comfortably lasting a full working day away from the wall plug — a rare treat for a gaming laptop.

Verdict

It’s hard to beat the value of the Asus TUF A14. It packs an impressive new CPU, a fantastic display, and a gorgeously slender, solid design that’s worth more than it costs. For those after a powerful laptop they can take on the road for both work and play without paying through the nose, the TUF A14 is an outright steal, and we can’t recommend it highly enough for this.

Buy the Asus TUF A14 if:

  • You are looking for a thin and light laptop. Handy on the go: Take this lightweight tablet everywhere you go, from room to room or on a trip, and make the most of a 12-hour battery life.
  • You’re seeking a device that’s both for work and play. Below that svelte exterior is an efficient yet powerful processor and a form factor that is perfect for work during the day and gaming at night.
  • You’re a fan of the Zephyrus G14, but not its price. The A14 provides even higher-end, high-flying, updated technology at an extremely affordable price.

Don’t buy the Asus TUF A14 if:

  • You can’t not have an OLED screen. The A14’s IPS panel is fine, but if you want the best in color vibrancy and contrast offered by an OLED screen, you’ll need to make the jump to the Zephyrus G14.
  • You want luxurious, high-end materials. Durable Yet Affordable The A14 is a durable and glitch-free unit. If you’re after the high-end feel of a CNC-milled unibody chassis, you’ll have to head to the more expensive models.

How We Test Asus Gaming Laptops

So we performed an exhaustive testing process to determine the best options for you. We assessed using objective data and anecdotal experience.

First, we execute a set of industry-standard benchmarks. We fire up 3DMark (Time Spy, Fire Strike, Steel Nomad) to check out Time Spy and Fire Strike and take a closer look at the fine print on the global data. To measure the raw processing power of the CPU, we also run PCMark 10 and Cinebench for productivity and more intensive processing. These tests provide us (or would provide us!) with some “ground truth” with which we can judge the relative performance of different models.

Next, we run each laptop through a gauntlet of modern games, as well as play Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Returnal, and The Talos Principle 2. We then run in-game benchmarks at 1080p and the laptop’s native resolution, at both high and ultra settings. That gives us an indication of real-world gaming performance, which is what counts.

This rigorous process is conducted both for fairness and to ensure we provide you with accurate, independent, and useful reviews designed to help answer the question of which is the best product or service that we’ve used today.
